WHAT WE DO
Empowering lives,
cooking and cooling
with hydrogen for a sustainable future!
We want every household everywhere to cook in a renewable, healthy, affordable, and eco-friendly way.
What we do
Welcome to COOSHA Impact Venture, a start-up focused on delivering renewable hydrogen and appliances around the world. Our goal is to generate positive societal impact in an economically sustainable and scalable way, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
THE ISSUE
Three billion people worldwide use polluting fuels for cooking, leading to adverse health effects and causing 3.8 million premature deaths annually. The extensive use of firewood in cooking is a primary contributor to deforestation. According to the World Bank, this practice is accountable for 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the repercussions disproportionately affect women and children, who face increased exposure to smoke and are tasked with gathering firewood.
THE PROJECT
Our purpose is to introduce hydrogen solar panel technology as a key enabling technology for the UN SDG goals Affordable and Clean Energy no. 7 and Good Health no. 3 in low and middle-income countries. Hydrogen solar panels are a patented technology that absorbs water out of the air during the night and produces hydrogen by harnessing solar energy during the day. This award-winning technology – nominated for the EPO-inventor Award 2022 – is manufactured by Solhyd, a Belgium-based spin-off from KU Leuven. The technology allows you to produce – just as a solar panel produces off-grid electricity – renewable hydrogen with only sunlight and humid air.
By 2030, our ambition is to enable 100,000 families each year to access renewable hydrogen for cooking and cooling purposes. We want to demonstrate that renewable hydrogen is a sustainable and affordable energy source for everyone.
What we do
Renewable hydrogen
Enabled by an Impact License Agreement with Solhyd, our capability to generate off-grid renewable hydrogen is the catalyst for our commitment to sustainability. The innovative solution is characterized by its modularity, scalability, and minimal input requirements—solely reliant on sunlight and humid air. This innovative technology aligns seamlessly with our dedication to advancing UN Sustainable Development Goal 7, ensuring universal access to clean and affordable energy.
Appliance development for renewable hydrogen
COOSHA is involved in the development of renewable hydrogen appliances. These appliances are designed to facilitate the uptake of clean energy solutions in alignment with sustainability goals.
Monitoring and evaluation
COOSHA establishes robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks to assess and report on the impact of our clean energy appliances. This includes tracking environmental and social benefits and ensuring compliance with the defined impact purposes.
Social business development
Through our services, we play a key role in creating and supporting local businesses, this enables us to scale the deployment of solar hydrogen technology and appliances. The local businesses operate on guiding principles, with a strong focus on gender, inclusivity, and sustainability.
